Unknown Plant - Plantland in Manassas

I purchased a plant with no label at the Plantland nursery in Manassas many years ago. It was attractive and on sale. To date I have no idea what it is except that it may be in the lamiaceae due to the rounded squarish stems and clasping leaves. Any thoughts on identity? Can I eat it?

    Grow Light Setup

I finally went ahead and built stands for two shop lights I bought 4 years ago. Originally I wanted to use them in a room with poor lighting, but never unpackaged them. Last year I thought I could make them into a grow light setup . . . but never got around to it. Since I was off work this week...

    Adam's Legume Results 2015

I thought that I should give a rundown of the seed I grew this year and what I thought. Striped Hull Greasy Cutshort pole bean: I didn't actually eat any of these. The size of the pods was disappointing so I decided to multiply my seed instead. On the other hand these were planted in a bed...

So apparently Mugwort is a weed

I purchased seeds or mugwort in early 2014 and planted the 2 or three, sweet smelling plants, in my veggie garden. This year I had a huge bush to contend with. In doing further reading I've learned that many people have had horrible times eradicating this plant. Now what? :(

    Yellow Potato Onions

I got my yellow onions from an eBay seller last fall and planted half then and half in spring. A couple of them never came up, oddly they were spring planted ones, but most did. They were harvested when I got home from work today and noticed that I could not see them. Most were being pushed down...

    Blody Butcher Corn

The Bloody Butcher corn is making excellent progress. Most plants are chest height on me or higher and I'm 5'10". I don't have an exact count on live plants, but at two ears each I should have plenty to replenish my old seed. Must remember to keep the cats in the garden when the corn is...

Laundry Day Limas - can they be saved?

This is a first for me, I ran 1/2 of a small package of King of the Garden lima bean seed through the washing machine. :barnieHere's how I did it: On Tuesday I planted, among about a dozen other things, half the package of lima seed in a single, well spaced, row as my last garden chore before...

Cold stratifying Hablitzia tamnoides - I'm late

Like it says in the title. I tried growing Caucasian spinach last year, but started them in less than ideal conditions, without cold stratification, and didn't know what the seedlings looked like (so I may have plucked them out of the pot). :( Naturally I waited till the snows began to melt...

Germination Test #1 Chinese Long Green Long Beans

I have a trove of frozen Chinese Long Bean seeds in my freezer, inherited from my parents' house before they moved last year. My family has been growing this, formerly nameless variety since 1974; it was given the name Chinese Long Green by a Gardenweb member I traded it to. My fault for not...

    Hello from Virginia

Hi I'm Adam and I garden. My grandmother got me involved when I was seven and I have been learning ever since. Right now I am learning to be a more organized gardener as my earlier efforts have been . . . slap-dash. I am the keeper of a strain of, probably widely grown, Chinese long beans...
