I grew up with can beets. I thought beets where the grossest vegetable out there.. Till I had roasted beets at restaurant, now beets with goat cheese one of my favorites.

Yup grew up on canned peas, hated them till growing them this year garden peas will be a main stay in the garden from now on. Roasted beets and carrots are very nasty side dish.... Amazing what we hated as kids, we are liking now.....

Canned peas smell and taste rancid to me, I'm glad you discovered fresh peas they are one of the best vegetables you can grow in my opinion.

nothing like popping a pod right there in the garden and eating them.. can't wait for the new queen watermelons to be done so i can start setting up for a fall crop, dw told me to plant more..

update 7/24/15
so glad to be home even its only for 2 days, been told to expect to be going down there for the next couple weeks working on the store.. so bloody hot down there by 9 am my clothes are sopping wet dripping into my boots by 4:30 i am done and heading for the hotel for a cold shower and cold beer.... and then you have the wonderful smell predominating the air from the smithfield processing plant 2 blocks down enough of the whining..

on to the update....
the dw did a fantastic job watering the gardens everyone has filled out or grown a country mile...
the brussel sprouts have sprouts on them now.... have to do a serious weeding before they get to much fuller

call 911 found a couple fugitives on the run guess their free game for the wildlife...

as for the raised bed area..
the crimson sweets are going for it ,did loss one it was the sickliest one out of the group.

the burbank russets just keep flowering.. overwise the potato bed is starting to slowly die back

the yellow beans are getting yellow, hopefully a good canner or two next week.

dw gave the basil a serious haircut to put in the tomato sauce she made.

don't know about you but i am going to pull the 6 largest ripest ears, fire up the bbq throw a couple ribeyes on and grill the corn

round 3 of the corn is doing well need to replant a couple seeds for a full bed....

and for you @thistlebloom summer carrots....

7/24/15 part 2 update

the pole beans and cantaloupe reaching every direction

mators galore... really like the determinate tomatoes this year they stay in the cages compared to the ones in the background...

dw made a boo boo when taking the tomatoes that we started for her friend so we ended up with a lemon tomato plant <yellow cherry tomato>

the white eggplant are sure a prolific producer

dw picked down the bells last monday have more to pick this weekend...

got side tracked on watering will have to post up the rest of the peppers this weekend.....
and lastly the salt and pepper cucumber has been bitten so it's on it's way out... they are a tasty cucumber.

been procrastinating to long have too get the winter squash and a couple more marketmore cucumbers started this weekend..

Looking good, Major! Hey, I'd make some little cages out of wire and guard those runaway watermelons too!

Gotta say, your lush garden pics are making me feel a twinge of self-pity. Can I come down and waller in your tomato patch until my t-shirt turns green and make dirt angels in your weedless rows until I feel better?

I did find a few useful things growing in my garden yesterday after I got done weedeating it. Also found my lost hoe too, swallowed up by the weeds where I must have tossed it aside in despair a couple weeks ago. LOL

Seriously though, I really enjoy your pics. Everything looks so robust, healthy and yummy! Glad you are having a good turn out in the garden this year.

Your right! Going to find some fencing and corral them....

Journey you are always welcome to come down and pick your hearts content, as for making dirt angels better bring lots of band aides since the area is full of broken glass. Every time it rains I find more glass to pick up.

Love the smell of the tomato plants every time I'm out here picking..... Glad you found your missing hoe...
Oh as for being weedless ....not have spent many hours bent over pulling them, it's a endless battle...

This year the weather is cooperating for a change, also the bugs have been minimal compared to years past..

The weather here has been phenomenal for gardening. Such a shame I have so little to show for it. For various reasons, I just never got into the garden to work as I should have. Much of what I planned to plant is still in neat seed package rows. Sigh!

Already mentioned to DH that next year will be different. Yup! Gardeners optimism at it's worst/best! Today I plan on spending much of my time in the garden. Of course, just getting the lawn mower pushed through the place might be all I can handle. Gotta start somewhere. There is still time for fall garden planting.
