this year has been a bust for me on most of the beans. the only one going wild is the Louisiana Purple Pods i got from someone else. seems they are loving the rain. this week i've picked a few pods enough for a meal for me and dh.

i did start some more beans in pots with the intent of transplanting them to larger pots that i could move to my greenhouse when the cooler temps start to touch our area. my greenhouse isn't finished yet but i'm hoping to have that done soon if the rain and harsh humidity would go away this weekend.

@Bluejay77 so Candy started out as a half runner, interesting. It looks like I'm not going to get much seed this year so I'll grow Candy again next year and see if it stays a true bush, if it does do you want a few seeds? My seed 'looks' identical to the picture of Candy on your website.

@aftermidnight, yes if you can select a true bush form of Candy I would like to see that, and have a couple seeds of them. Last year I grew Candy and every single plant was a half runner.

What is interesting about a true bush form of Candy is should it actually have a different name?

"Candy Bush" Really sounds like a great name, as in, candy that grows on a bush.

@Bluejay77 OK done deal, I'll grow the few I have next year and if the they stay a true bush and it wasn't just a freak of our unusual weather this year I'll pop some in the mail. To be honest they were grown in a tub this year with just a bit of water thrown at them, I didn't spend much time out in the garden due to the heat, can't take it .
Next year I'll pay more attention to them and give them a better location. I'll keep this years plants going as long as I can, see if I can't squeeze a few more pods out of them

That certainly is the seed of how Candy looks.

A bean that I got a hold of from John Withee's Wanigan collection called Big Light Red Trout was the seed mother of Candy. I would like to get a hold of that bean again from SSE who I believe has it in their bean collections. BLRT has large seed just like Candy and patterned like Jacob's Cattle but the colors are really light and sort of washed out looking.

Except for the long season types and Limas, most of the 116 kinds of beans are now harvested and counted. I'll photograph each for comparison with what was planted. Overall the excessive rains caused a lot of poor plant development like @Bluejay77 experienced and resulted in immature beans and molding of the majority of pods. I don't ever remember a growing season where I didn't have to turn on the irrigation! At least it wasn't a total loss, but all beans will need to be for next year's seed and none for eating.

Sadly, I report all of the Nyimo beans died. They could not handle the excessive rain. I will try the remaining ones next year and hope for better weather.

On a funny note, today I noticed Flickr has started using some kind of image recognition software to categorize my photos. While the majority of bean photos fell under "food" a number of them were classified as children, and share the lineup with my granddaughter! LOL. The tepary beans were classified as rocks, and a select few of my chickens were classified as people.
