2019 kiwi harvest..

well if that dont beat all a new record 149 pounds, after going though them we tossed 15 lbs of quarter size ones.

heres the running totals from years past......

late yesterday got a call from the owner he asked if i would see clear to bend one of my demands and drive a truck monday down to the store in summerville ,sc....sure why not.
so went out this morning and picked up a drivers log book, while out drove over to lowes and picked up a mini fridge, once done with kiwis it's going down to my office at work.....

have sent a couple emails to food and soup kitchens to see if they would like the vest majority of the kiwi's

Wow, that's a huge increase in production! Why do you think they bore so heavy this year?

thats a million dollar question.. but if had to guess lack of pruning, it's a mess out there. time to rebuild the trellis system and a major trim..
going to save some of the seeds and start some this winter..

They require 750 hours of cold stratification. Winters play a part. I was very interested to read about Auburn University coming out with a series of kiwi. The plant name all start with AU. They have green ones but yellow kiwi are a focus. It appears we can grow them here in the southeast

went back in the weather records we had a average winter, and we went from winter directly into summer. it was dry and warm when the kiwi's were blooming we had plenty of pollinators buzzing around for a change.....
so everyone of the females got knocked up....
