This was just a test, so to answer both of your questions, no I won't be growing them indoors or outdoors, it's still far to cold to plant out anything.

But I will let them grow a little longer under lights to see what happens.

I would like to try @Artorius method of growing dwarf beans indoors out of season, but I don't have the natural light for it. Do you think growlights would suffice?

I can't say for sure, but I would think they would. It would be good to know for sure.

I was once forced to grow beans under lights for 2 weeks due to a spell of unexpected bad weather. One time isn't much to draw a conclusion but what I observed with mine was the grow light fluorescents were not strong enough and the bean stems elongated far too much really quickly. I think if you have the really intense full spectrum grow lights you might be able to do it, but my inferior set up would not have succeeded long term I don't think.

Grow lights work for tomato plants and they must require just as much intensity of light as beans do. If you have grow lights try it and see what happens. I would think bush bean would be the best one to try because they are smaller.

Russ's 2025 Big Bean Show Day 9​

Blue Jay - Bush Snap. I think a lot of bean people already know the story of Blue Jay. I have the need to grow it fairly frequently as it is steadly requested. I got a nice seed crop of nice quality seed in 2025. Besides being sold by probably 15 or more Canadian heritage seed companies. It is also sold by The Secret Seed Cartel in France and Living Seeds in South Africa. Blue Jay does make a good dry bean. It's not as good as a pole snap bean and never will be but it's for those growers who don't want to erect trellises for pole beans.

Blue Pacific - Pole Dry. This bean was discovered by Garry Greene in 2023 who lives in Victoria BC. He thinks Viola Di Assiago was the seed mother. It seems to have Assiago's seed shape and the tell tale little white color eminating from one side of the eye. He sent me some seed in the fall of 2023. I grew it this past summer and it had a tough time with the weather. I did get a good percentage of blue beans from it and will give it a try again sometime perhaps this summer. It was quite warm at my seed harvest time.
