So when I cut my 8 foot long furing stirpes to 84 inches that is 7 feet. Then if I drive then into the ground a foot they are 6 feet tall sticking out of the soil. Most of the pole beans grow to the top and then most of the way back down to the soil. I get plenty of seed and have grown them like this for 50 years.
My poles are also about 2.5 meter / 8 feet tall but I usually build tipis of 3, 4 or 6 poles.
But this year I got an additional bean from the Swiss foundation for the cultural and genetic plants and animals preservation that should urgently be multiplied. They are called "Weisse Franzosen" ("white French") and grow to 6+ meter/ 20+ feet. I still do not know yet where to plant them as growing to the top and back down is not enough 😂

Could you try a trellis and train them to run horizontally?

Another option - Let then run to the top and back down, then train them to run back up if they don't turn by themselves. I think the main idea is to keep them off of the ground so the beans don't rot if it stays wet a while. I'd think they would get enough sunlight.

Do you ever see sclerotinia on your pole vines? That is something that I have to watch out for with all my bean plants, pole and bushes, because for whatever reason my yard is a bit prone to that. I'm a bit hemmed in I suppose. I feel like I have to give the plants a little extra room for air movement, and even then I will still get a pole plant or two with it.

I can't help but go all fan-boy when the beans finally start to sprout!

I am finally free to start planting beans in pots! :celebrate

Tonight is our last frost, and from here on we're in the mid 20's C/70's F with lows at night around 10-15C/50-60F.

What a relief! Need to go buy myself a new big bale of potting mix to get started/celebrate! 🥳

How are things going with you @Blue-Jay and your gardens?
