54 tomatoes staked and 45 more to go.

Whew, that's a lot of tomatoes! I planted 56 last year and swore never again. I did a little better this year, down to only 30. ;)

We also have 30. Used to plant from 80 on up, but I think 30 well tended will be enough for us. When we had all those others, we canned more, and also sold some, and gave away a LOT.

How funny- I had around 80 last year, and I to "downsized" to 30! Must be the magic number... I do have a little extra room in the garden!

I love fresh tomatoes, and wish i had room to grow more! :)
I have 2 4x8 beds for tomatoes this year, plus a couple plants in large containers, and one planted in a squash bed. But I want MORE! :) Next year!

My wife decided that we needed to plant more tomatoes because the 60 quarts of sauce we caned last year wasn't enough to last from one canning season to the next.
So in turn I planted 24 Better Boy, 24 Campbell 33 and 51 Roma tomatoes.

Do you make yours plain and add the spices later, so you can use it in soup/chili/pasta/etc.? I didn't figure out until last year that that was a good way to go since it's more versatile. I can see how 60 wouldn't be enough, depending on what you like to cook. Just curious, how big of a family are you feeding?

Oh my we use sauce at least twice a week.
2 time a week - 8 times a month - 96 times a year ;)
We add the spices as we can it.
This year we will shoot for 50 qt's of Chili, 25 qt's soup and the rest in Pasta (hopefully 55+).

The tomatoes I planted this year takes up a 24' X 30' area.
I found out a long time ago you can never have too many tomatoes. :)
