Lucky I love the barter system, check around and see if a groomer or vet tech might trade doing anal glands for your fresh eggs. It takes about 5 to 10 seconds to do.

The trading for fresh eggs sounds like a good idea. I'll keep that in mind when those independent chickens decide to start laying again.
I don't know what to think about the possibility of the vet not having Penny's best interest in mind. I know they are there to make money.....and I know they like to pad the procedures with extras, like a hospital does, some of which are "optional." I will at least be mindful of the doc's suggestions and methods. They are one of the biggest and most well known vet offices in the area. Doesn't mean the best, though.
