I have learned something interesting about African daisies that I wanted to share. I bought a small African daisy back in May at a local nursery. It started out very dainty, with free flowing stems and a few delicate blooms.

I put it in a pot on the stern of my sailboat and took it sailing for a week. Most of the blooms wilted and I thought it would not do too well.

I took it out sailing again for a couple of months and it had plenty of wind, salt, and sunshine. As time passed, the stems became like a succulent type plant! Not too long after this rather drastic change, it started blooming again, and the blooms have just exploded with more coming each day! I can't believe how well it is doing!!!

My daughter has an African daisy that she bought about the same time I got mine. She lives in town and the plant lives on her back deck. Anyway, her daisy is doing well also, but it is very dainty with just a few blooms just like my daisy was at the beginning! I guess these flowers are true sailors!!!
