I was gonna say that I bet I have an hour less of daylight than you have, @Carol Dee and 2 hours less than @canesisters ... then I thought that there was no use exaggerating. Weeelll, I'm not so sure it would be wrong to say, looking at this:
Long Grove Iowa is about 42°N
The Dismal Swamp Virginia is about 37°N
I will say that looking out for school kids on dark roadways is a much higher concern than me peering out my kitchen window into the darkness. And, that goes the same for dodging deer in the Virginia countryside, just a matter of degree.

who once had these absurd notions about moving even further north ...
