Ants eating my strawberries

Are you sure that the actual holes aren't being made by slugs, and then the ants getting in? I've never heard of actual ants eating strawberries. Not saying it's impossible, just that around here it's more usual that slugs or birds took a bite out and the ants sort of take advantage, you know?

Around here its squirrels take a bite and the ants take advantage. If I don't remove the ones the squirrels have damaged daily I have ants everywhere in my strawberries.

Hmmm, that makes sense. It's been super-rainy around here, so the slugs are a likely culprit. I'll have to put out some beer traps.
