Any Tips for Bathing A Hen?

There is a person on BYC that paints her chickens' nails, after their spa treatment.

I have always asked mine if they want their nails painted. None of them have ever seem interested.

I once painted one nail on one chicken, so that I knew which hen it was laying the darkest brown eggs. Of course, something ate her the next day. I think it's was attracted to the smell of nail polish.

Well not something I will try alone again!!! Straches are still healing, hen much happier. Murphys law least tame hen needed bath.

Nyboy, I have learned to never do anything alone with chickens. It takes my two hands just to hold her and husband to do whatever needs doing. I also always wear my gardening gloves and long sleeves.

Do you really need to bathe a chook?

I would cut all the dirty and hanging feather away at the skin. If any poo is on the skin, then just hold the hen in warm water to loosen the poo.
