I am planning on drying some green onion tops to use in potato salad etc later..How does everyone prepare them(or peppers) for drying.. just wash them? blanch them first ? I guess I just want to be sure t here are no bacteria on them.

I was planning on doing this with a coffee grinder I have. Will that work? Will it come clean so I can use it for coffee again some day?

Oh, that would be a great idea. I just planted green onions on Monday, this is a first for me. I don't know about blanching them. Green onion tops are pretty thin and I am not sure how they would hold up to blanching then drying. Anyone have any experience with this?

You are right about the blanching, I think if we washed them in vinegar water, they would be fine dont you? I did cut up whole onion heads one year and dehydrate for onion flakes , because they looked like they might not hold up in storage.. I did not blanch then, was not so "health cautious" back then. I sure got a lot of use from them. love onion flakes for cooking ..soups chili almost anything.
