I found this on my All Blues, what is it? Is it seeds?, I've only grown taters for 4 years but haven't seen this before....

I think that is a seed pod. Congratulations. You could totally be famous now for creating a new potato like Luther Burbank. He found a seed pod in his field and then planted it and founded the Burbank Russet potatoes.

Yep obsessed your right, I've got myself some TPS (true potato seed) I just did some googling :caf .
If I'm understanding what I read correctly, I now can let them dry and plant early next year then use the tuberlets as my seed potato????
I'm just a throw it in the ground and hope it grows kinda girl!!! Any special directions for drying the pods? Would these seeds be viable? Less resistant to disease? Or will they be the same as the parent plant? You can certainly tell they are in the same family as tomato. This is turning out to be a interesting year in the garden. :rainbow-sun

Amazing, I've never seen that before. It may be that I harvest my spuds long before the flowers would develop seeds..

I always get those on my potatoes they look like small tomatoes, these are highly toxic so DO NOT eat them.

Hey!! I got those on my Adirondack blues, too! First time I had grown them and first time I developed potato seeds. What a timely thread :D

After reading this thread and seeing the picture of the potato seed pod, I did some research.

It said if you're lucky enough to get these, dry them on a sunny windowsill until they're black. Cut them open; scrape seeds out onto a paper towel; let them throughly dry; and, put in an envelope to plant next year.

When do you need to harvest the pods? Do I wait until the whole plant has died back so the pod is fully mature? Thanks!!

I read to harvest them when they are ripe and soft like a ripe tomato. There is some good info at growseed.org/potato

I'm going to give it a try and see what happens, once I got to looking I saw alot of the berries. :rainbow-sun
