Yesterday, I planted the last of the basil and San Marzanos which means I’ve got about 2 weeks before I have anything else to do in the greenhouse. All of the peas, lettuce, radishes, mint and most of the artichokes have sprouted. Today I’ll probably work on the fence some more but for the most part I’ll be taking a break from the vegetable garden to get my lilies, hosta and iris in the ground. Early next week I’ll be planting the day lilies, peonies, broccoli, cabbage, collards, beets, chard and carrots. I have a few more things to start in the greenhouse but I think it’s just flowers.
The daffodils are blooming steadily now and the tulips, Muscari, and day lilies are sprouting. F2A754A1-9037-4BCF-B3C1-ED2EB3E7ACE1.jpeg

It’s been a busy few days around here. The cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, collards, carrots, beets and the rest of the flowers are in the ground. Dad mowed the yard for the first time this year and all you could smell for 1/2 a mile were the onions. The tomatoes, Sweet peppers, artichokes and basil have begun to sprout. The compiles have been turned and the big garden weeded. I went through my seed stash again and froze some of the seeds I know I won’t be using this year. This is my first time freezing any. I didn’t get the fence finished like I planned I got a lot done but other things ended up taking priority like the baking and planting the carrots. Today it was taking the foster kittens to the adoption event in a town almost 60 miles away.

No fear of frost or are they still inside?

Everything in the greenhouse except the San Marzanos has begun to sprout. Work on the fence is halted until Monday since it’s to dry to drive sticks. I’ve gathered most of what I need to finish it. I went down to the river Sunday and picked some more tomato and pepper stakes while I fished. Things are beginning to really leaf out and bloom around here highs have been in the 70s most of the week. Tuesday I direct sowed the parsley and chard. And yesterday I got my picking off of the lettuce that overwintered.
Yesterday I went and dug daffodils off of my grandparents property I was only expecting to get maybe 20-30 bulbs of 3 different kinds and came home with about 200 of 7 different kinds. :thAnd we didn’t have time to get bulbs of another. I also got bulbs of another unknown plant. So today’s mission is to get those in the ground.

It took 3 days but I finally got the last of the bulbs in the ground. I counted and there was at least 250 bulbs. Chard and Parsley haven’t sprouted yet but my carrots and beets have as has everything in the greenhouse including the last of the tomatoes and marigolds. My seedlings suffered a little damage from there night in the shed. Unfortunately the mice decided to take samples luckily I hadn’t gotten around to thinning yet so I should only be down a plant or two. 1 tray I almost forgot about and it took some wind damage so I’ll have to see how it recovers. Everything except the potatoes is up in the main garden. The potatoes have about another week before I get worried. I’ll try to work on the fence tomorrow it’s far to wet right now from yesterday’s rain. Also my raspberries got delivered yesterday while we were under a tornado warning and I planted them first thing this morning.

We’ve had more storms around here so not much has happened out in the garden because of the mud. Everything is up now aside from a few flower seeds I’ve added this week. Radish will be ready to pick soon and everything is leading out. This week will be spent building trellises and mulching the flower beds. I’m also incubating chicken eggs for the first time this week as long as my incubator runs properly.

It’s been mostly dry this week and I’ve been getting some weeding done in both gardens. The potatoes are finally up though they are a bit frost damaged. The spinach is coming along well and I’ll be harvesting Brussels sprouts today.

There’s a lot going on around here now. Eggs in the incubator. Plants over running the greenhouse. I finally got the 2nd plum tree planted and I’ve planted divided and move various plants around the flower beds. It’s just about time to plant the garden. The last frost has passed and I’m waiting on temps to stay above 55F to plant out the transplants. The potatoes have finally sprouted and they are enjoying the cool weather. I’ll be spending the next week working on the trellises and potting up everything in the greenhouse.
