Baymule’s Farm

@seedcorn I have Grazon to spray field with. It persists up to 18 months. Does that mean that it will kill broad leafed plants now and later when more come up? Or just the ones that are up now? I want to spray the entire back field. If I do it now, will I need to spray again in the spring?
Thanks!

Note: I’ve always been as organic as possible. But not this time. I have poison hemlock, 3 kinds of nightshade,Carolina horse nettle-terrible thorny toxic mess,. Then goat weed, which sheep won’t eat plus pigweed, bitterweed, dock, sida rhombifolia, sheep will nibble these plants, but there are big patches where nothing else grows.

I CANNOT PULLL WEEDS ON 25 ACRES.
This is painful to me, but it’s what I have to do. So if all anybody has to say is blather about the bad poisons, just shutup. I already know that. This land has been over grazed, used, nothing put back, for 3 generations. It’s going to take a LOT of work to get it to where I want it. I may not want to, but that’s what it’s going to take to get this place cleaned up.

I don't think anyone is suggesting you do :o I can barely pull weeds on a 10x10 section I can't imagine doing it on acres and acres.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Probably not going to like my response.

Spray now. When plants are starting to shut down, spray again (this is the most effective time). Then when things start to green up in spring, spray again. At this time use a mix of urea and ammonium sulfate to feed the grasses. They will then help choke out weeds.

Good luck

That’s exactly what I needed to know. Where do I get the urea and ammonium sulfate? Fertilizer place? And what is the mix ratio?

Son said it may take several years before the weeds slow down enough to spot spray. There are “good” weeds and forbs that I will lose, there is lots of clover on this place. Oh well. I can replant after I get rid of the invasive and toxic plants.

I want to have someone cut hay in the back field. That way I’ll know it’s weed free and I won’t be bringing in more weeds from outside hay.

@seedcorn I’ve always had a big mouth against poisons, I’m eating those words now. Kinda chewy. Still don’t like them, but I put on my Big Girl pants and I’m gonna git ‘er done.

I’m slap out of hay. I paid $80 for a Bahia bale, put in the back of my truck. I backed up fast, stomped brakes and it rolled out. Chase came over with his tractor and set it for me. Sheep are happily munching on it now. I’ll have to keep them off the field until it rains. And rains. August? September? There might not be another hay cutting. I can buy Bahia and Bermuda mixed hay for $80. Bermuda is going for $150 now. 4 hours north, they have had rain. Hay is a little cheaper, but not a lot.

It’s HOT!

When I got back with hay bale, Sheba was crying. She was so hot. Buford is oblivious, he just goes swimming in the pond. But he likes it under the porch too. They didn’t even come out or bark at Chase’s tractor. And Sentry is passed out in the dog crate.

I’ve got an ice cold glass of limeade. I buy frozen lemonade and limeade at Walmart. It’s so good! Soaking wet, hot, it sure tastes good.
