Had a great time at the Tex-Kats sheep field day. Demonstrations Friday evening followed by an ice cream social, Saturday was several speakers giving out tons of information.
Pictured is a blood draw demonstration. I’m pretty easy to spot.

Monday! I went to my sister’s house in Willis, to celebrate my birthday that was last week, but it was storming.
My sister is moving back to her flooded house. FEMA has not bought her out yet and it’s been a turbulent year for her. She bought another house, totally updated it and it’s beautiful. But it’s not home and she is unhappy. She told me of her decision a week ago and I understand. Downstairs was stripped out to the studs. So it won’t take much to make it livable again.

Electrical work is being done, well is being done, stacks of Sheetrock are waiting to be put up. She’s not going all out on redoing the downstairs because another flood will come and wipe it out again. She’s promised that she will not ride out another hurricane, no more second story rescues out the window. She will go check into a hotel or go stay at a friend’s house.

It will take about 2 weeks to complete the downstairs. My sister is going home. I fully support her on this. I wouldn’t live like that, but for her, it’s worth it.

So we had a great visit, went by her house to check on progress and went to lunch. A friend joined us and we had a good time. Downtown Conroe has had a renovation, no more empty buildings, all are full and thriving. The place she chose was eclectic in decor and we had our picture taken with John Belushi.

Tuesday! I was up at 4 AM, out the door and gone by 5 AM. 3 hours to @Ridgetop’s house. Got there at 8:00. Knock! Knock! Knock!

The dogs, Hazine and Ozel barked at me, so I went to the fence, talking sweet, they sniffed my hand, Oh, it’s you! They wagged tails and I petted them.

Had a cup of coffee while Ridgetop and her DH got ready. They showed me their cross fence and it is impressive. Ozel wasn’t sure about the jump gate, but Ridgetop coaxed her and she jumped through it. Hazine looked at Ozel with a look that plainly said, Let the dummy do it.

They did get the dogs to jump through the dog gate. But the sheep saw that and in monkey see monkey do fashion, they followed the dogs. Back to the drawing board….

The pasture walk and presentation was only 4 miles from their house. It was held in a big metal building, former tractor and equipment storage for a dairy. The pasture walk was breathtaking, maybe not for most people, but for livestock owners, it was fabulous. The wide variety of plants was fantastic. Deep lush greenery, tall grasses, birds, cattle and sheep.

Brandon Bing, NRCS grazing specialist from the Palestine office. He was talking about soil compaction, water retention and the plants that help the soil.
