i did know it was a disease, but i didn't know any of the regulatory details. :) thank you for filling that in.

i'm glad they are doing it - like the mad cow problem of many years ago it isn't something to be taken lightly.

I got new tools yesterday! My old battery drill and circle saw have given up, so I got a Dewalt battery drill, impact and circle saw I'm ready to rock and roll again!
A battery-powered drill is essential, even for in-house projects. (One can never have enough tools.)

Ginger, ewe with hurt leg, had twins yesterday morning. Both white, a ram and a ewe. 87.5% eligible for registration at 1year old after they pass the hair coat test. For lambs born in winter, they will be fuzzy at a year old, so will have to wait for second summer, about 1 1/2 years old.

Lamb count is 12

I put up another jug yesterday, added to the 2 already there. Pallet on top, then put corrugated tin on for a roof. I dumped dirt and extended the pad to add 2 more jugs. I had to climb up on top because I couldn’t reach the backside of the tin. For something made out of pallets, tied together with hay string and a very few deck screws, it was surprisingly sturdy.

This is looking like another “temporary” project that will still be there 3 years later. 🤪🤪🤪

So now I have 3 jugs, have enough pallets to make 2 more.

Christmas Eve I finished 2 more jugs. Good thing I did, Sunday I had 6 lambs born!

Look at this spotty one!

One new momma, Dusty, had twins. It happens sometimes that the second lamb born gets all the attention, cleaned up, nudged to get up and nurse, while the first born is forgotten about. I got home from church and saw Dusty with lambs. I changed clothes and went to investigate. One was up, doing good, what looked to be the firstborn was wrapped in afterbirth, cold, limp, barely alive, fading fast.

I took her in the house, wrapped her in a towel, sat in my recliner holding her and put a heating pad on her. I dribbled a few drops of colostrum in her mouth, but she was pretty unresponsive.

I held her all afternoon until I had to go do evening chores. I came back in expecting to find her dead. I picked her up and she BAA’ed! I got some more colostrum in n her, she perked up and just kept getting better. I stayed up until 11 to make sure she had a full tummy. She was up at 5;00 AM! Yelling for a bottle! She made a comeback from the brink of death. She is doing great.

Carson licks the milk off her face.

She snuggles up to him, so cute!

This is for @flowerbug this picture shows a scrapie tag on the lamb’s ear and a grown up tag on the ewe. That tag number is on her registration paper.
