you know if you look over the last year or two the only members that post photos of their gardens are from below the 36th parallel line..aka southerns. guess everyone above that in the north or west lives in these areas...

Last year's garden was better. This year's garden got started late, but we have done a TON of work that should pay dividends next year. The only thing I have canned so far is plum juice from the wild plums we gathered from the fence rows around here, chicken broth and the chicken backs (for dog food) from the Cornish Cross we raised. NOTHING from the garden...… so far. Here's hoping! I have peas up that are doing good and sweet corn growing, just planted more zucchini and cucumbers. I NEED to make pickles!

The corn is starting to tassel. Anybody know how long from tassel to picking?

I have green tomatoes. Watered everything this morning. We have a week of 100+ degree heat, today will be 102.

Last fall we threw watermelon rinds to the hogs. Haha! Hog planted, hog fertilized.

Looking good Bay! Keep checking on the tassel end of the cob, once it dries up (almost crispy) then it should be about ready. Some people say 12-15 days after you see the ear tassel, but Keep filling the end of the cob to make sure its filled out good. If you think its good, pull back the shuck, push your finger in a kernel it should bleed milky not clear. Or just take a big bite and see if its sweet enough, that's what I do Lol.

I pulled my tomatoes up this past week Bay. It's so blasted hot here, they just aren't doing a thing. I have a good bit of tomatoes in the freezer I plan on canning once I get the chance. Mom's been sick, so I've been going in to work to cover for her the past 2-3 weeks. Working full time wrecks havoc on gardening, at least for me.

My pickles are putting out, slowly, but they are producing. I save them up and usually run a canner full once a week. Your watermelons are looking good! I've got one growing in the empty chicken run. So far, no fruit yet.

Take care with this heat we're having. I don't know what's worse, the heat or the cold. I don't like either. :)

The HEAT is the worst! You can put on enough clothes to stay warm, but you can't take off enough to stay cool......plus you get arrested for running around naked in public. Not to mention all the people you scare to death......

when it gets to be the really hot part of the summer we try to get out in the early morning for as long as we can, then siesta during the hottest part of the day. the AC really spoils us.

today looks like another rainy day here and not too hot, but plenty humid.
