Bluebirds are BACK!

have not heard the peppers yet will be listening for them now!

We saw bluebirds gathering nesting material back in February and heard the peepers at the beginning of March...both were the earliest we could remember for these events. We've got peepers singing every night now....I LOVE that sound!

We took a walk over in the State Park this evening. There were bluebirds all over the place!

I was pleased to note that a pair had started building a nest in the bluebird box outside my window. That box has been there waiting for a bluebirds for two years now, so I guess they finally decided it was safe. It's not the pair that normally nests in my regular box as the male is not as vibrantly blue but I'm still pleased to see them...they are my favorite songbird.

I have another of those boxes in the yard and will be watching it from time to time to see if maybe another pair will take up residence. The original pair put out 5 nests full of youngin's last year...and they produce that many every year, so I'm always hoping their young come back here to nest.

I still haven't seen a bluebird, but cleaning out the houses is on my list for tomorrow now that I don't have to spend my time in town at the apartment.
