Last summer I bought 4 fig trees, they need protection in my zone. When their leaves fell off I moved them into a unheated shed. I was hoping for a mild winter. From what I read they still needed small amount of water to live till spring. With all the frozen snow this winter, I couldn't open the shed doors to water. In March with the snow melt I peeked in at them, they looked dried up and dead. Was sure the cold and lack of water did them in. Yesterday I took another look at them, was surprized all 4 had buds. I moved them out of shed and gave them water. Hoping for figs this year !!

Oh wow, NyBoy, you are talking about fig trees again!

Well, I've got this shed . . . Okay, it is the neighbor and me with this shed. He didn't have anything in it all winter except a bag of compost. I wonder if we could work out a little deal on a small orchard of fig trees . . ?

Good Luck with yours!

Steve

Okay! Didn't think of rooting them.

Tell him not to give them to the garbage man! I will be back this afternoon with a PM for you!

who doesn't even know if there are any around locally!

Sounds like you have a rare commodity there Nyboy! A fig tree that can survive your climate! I hope you get figs, they are good. I make strawberry fig preserves using strawberry jello. They are so yummy! Last year I made up a recipe for lemon fig preserves and they are even better. Love them on some buttered toast!
