cauliflower

I'm planting cauliflower for the first time this year, and I have a really stupid question. After the heads bloom, I understand I cut them at the base. Will they grow another head? Or do I need to keep planting them ?:/

I have read . . . that cauliflower does not put out many side-shoots, DG.

For that reason, it is usually recommended that the plants be pulled at harvest. You may have real difficulty starting the plants late, however, because of your climate .

My neighbor grew some nice cauliflower the last year he had a vegetable garden. After a long career as a gardener, he hasn't grown anything the last 6 or 7 years. So, I'm not sure it is safe for me to risk it again.

Like Digits, I am also a cauliflower failure, which is unfortunate because I LOVE it. I know it is a heavy feeder, too, so it is probably better to pull it once it's done to save your soil some nutrients.

I am trying once again this year. I got a purple variety that is reportedly easier to grow. We'll see what happens....

I have never tried it... not a popular food choice here in the house. I wish you luck, document how well it goes and share with us for sure.

I grew it the last two years - but not this year!
It's too much work to keep the bugs out of them and catch the heads before they turn mealy.

Good luck! I don't know if you have a lot of trouble with cabbage loupers, ect. but I would invest in a floating cover for your cauliflower.
