So fun! There are a couple options that look a lot like chipmunks when first hatched.

to my broody hen with no eggs it is the first three
from the incubator as eggs where added 4 days apart

My EE roo has the blue gene... Got the first eggs this week out of my pullets that we hatched here. All the mamas were brown egg layers except for one other EE cross who also lays green. Kinda hard to tell whose baby is whose, but about half of them favor the BLR Wyandottes I think.

Those 2 brown eggs are from a couple of the mamas . I've been keeping an eye open for a couple of Maran pullets on a local chicken trading forum to add dark brown eggs and cross for dark olive layers next spring. I like variety. Haven't gotten the first egg out of my Mille Fleur d'Uccles yet. They are 4 weeks older than the others too.

My friends little boy refused to eat eggs, till I dropped off some blue ones and said they where from Easter Bunny.

I get more blue and green now that Brown my barred rock are the
only brown eggs left getting 13 bakers dozen 8 are colored but
also picked up another egg customer curious to see what my first
hatch will lay the little blue of my avatar it looks quite the little pullet
now.. her mother is a sex - link Dad is my F-1 OE

One of my RIR hens has taken to leaving her daily egg on the deck right outside my bedroom door. She's often right there staring into the house seeming to seek entrance.

This morning I found an egg in the garage near the back door. Not knowing how long it had been sitting there, I planned to toss the egg. Imagine my surprise to find it still warm!

From its size and color I suspect one of the spring chicks is now officially out of the pullet stage.

I don't want collecting eggs to be a daily scavenger hunt. Sure hope they learn where eggs do and don't belong real soon.
