Chickens for bug control and food recycling.

I have decided to take 1 EE she has so much barring she could be a br if you did not know
but not heavy like a barred rock either born right here but pesky like a rhode island red
she will go to auction as soon as ameracauna get old enough to sex all but 1 cockerel will round out auction
list.. actually thinking about taking the 5 barred rock hens they are pushing 4 all hatchery birds auction them after ameracauna start laying
Inquisitive minds what to know ...Why send them to auction ? If everyone here wants to know where their eggs, chicken soup and fried chicken comes from and how they were treated and processed humanely... well you are the one who raised them , so you definately know since you provided for your own chickens.

yes they know me at the auction hey how ya doing there besides not meeting a stranger there
BF doesn't want to butcher this is the best way I can get upward of 20 for 3 year old hen
30 for a nice cockerel

That's HUGE prices!!! We'd get merely a fraction of that in these parts so it's more profitable to eat them then sell them.

Around here, just in the local ads, a DP or layer POL hen will run anywhere from $10-$15, depending upon the breed. No chicken auctions here locally, so no way to compare.

Some delusional folks will try to get $5-$10 from a rooster now and again, but I doubt if they get that money....roosters are pretty much a give away item, especially right about now when they are gaining maturity and causing problems and folks don't want to winter them over.

It's just the newer backyarder with a few chickens that try to get a price out of roosters...those who have raised chickens for some time will offer them for free as few have any intention of killing and eating them. Most folks don't realize a rooster is tender as a baby chicken once canned into a jar.
