Chronicles of a Noob Garden and Gardener

The main strawberry bed is now in place. There will be a few more in containers and in the kids’ gardens, but the majority are in this raised bed.

looking good! if those are the kinds that get runners they're going to head out and around. i started my first strawberry patch with 6 plants and had over 130 by the end of the first season. :)

That is only way I like strawberries. Picked fresh and eaten within 5 seconds.... after 5 seconds—-YUCK!

What if you notice the berry that is half way to your mouth has snail slime on it ? :idunno
As if I would even see that. Plus we have no snails here. Little crap on my food is not even a concern. Just adds biotics and bacteria for my gut. It’s all good. I won’t gross viewers out in the conditions I’ve eaten food in. Yet, I’m still alive and somewhat healthy. I’d be 100% healthy if not for family genes....

yep. i'll eat a strawberry that the chipmunks or birds have taken bites out of by biting off the part that is damaged and spitting it out and then bite or pull the top off and finish it. yum. :) when out digging up green garlic i'll pull it out of the clay strip down the outer leaves down to the roots and bite that off. sometimes getting a little grit in the process. i figure it's just good minerals as long as i'm not grinding it in my teefers it's all ok.

dang, now i want some green garlic...

No please, do gross us out!

WARNING, WARNING. SQEAMISH DO NOT READ!

While working on our septic system, picked and ate strawberries. DD went back into house wanting to gag. I did pick by stem and bit off.

While working with hogs, have eaten.

I didn’t do it but saw workers at a rendering plant eating their lunch while setting on a dead cow.....

Oh.

Some of us realize that new gardeners will sometimes leave wonderful produce in the garden because ... it's outdoors. Shudder. The fruit and vegetables may be ignored!. Food, after all, comes from inside a supermarket ;).

Ben E. Lou, just breathe in the fresh air. Roll your eyes up to see the blue/blue sky and enjoy your day.

We know now that raising our kids in an ultra clean environment is bad for their immune system. I caught our 9 month old grand son chewing on a dog bone the other day. No problems with sterile child raising around here.
