And, when she returned with a handful of something , my eyes began to lose focus and the scene slowly vanished into the mist shrouded forest and mountains beyond.

The kid turnout seemed about the usual number. Our candy supply had been based on history. Somehow, I expected fewer kids. We emptied out a little early!

Today is opening day of deer season. I heard one shot. There are only a couple of people on my road that hunt, plus there are several deer leases nearby. Close enough to hear the gunfire.
I slept late, lazing around slowly sipping coffee. I'm tired, got one load of clothes washed, another in the washer, I'll hang them out to dry. I need to get outside and get chores done. I've been in a rush all week to get SIL to doctor appointments and It will continue this month with PT 3 times a week. Nearly 10 AM and I don't care.

I had to look up "deer lease." If the property owner combines that with, year-around installed blinds and baiting ... it almost comes down to a selling game.
@digitS' are your gardens all put up for the winter or still in progress?
The only plants that remain in the gardens are the ornamental perennials and about 6 feet of celeriac in one bed. There was about 8' at one time but they have been regularly harvested including for today's beef & barley soup.

At one time, and for about the the first 10 years that I grew celery root, I felt that they had better be harvested before frost. Well, they certainly can take light frosts and that has been the consistent morning experience, lately. They were then grown in distant gardens and had to be out of the ground for Fall cultivation but I also didn't want them to be damaged by freezing. They are probably hardier than their somewhat distant carrot relatives but I'm not as lax about that one just unhurried with the other. An empty cooler is already waiting for the celeriac on the deck but one thing is for sure, I'm in no hurry to be moving coolers in and out of the utility room on less-than-frigid days and frigid nights or leaving coolers in the way in that room. That ground will have some plant material and some soil from pots buried in it after harvest. That will be the end of Fall soil prep.

i needed a nap and was able to get some dreaming in, it was a silly dream about Mom singing some song wrong all the time and we were laughing about it as i was trying to get her to sing it with the right lyrics. funny to me though even more is that it was nothing at all to do with the music i'm playing now (and what was playing for the past few hours).

My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 7. I have a lot of tests next week. I will be glad this is over. I guess the heart and lung machine is my biggest worry. People talk about pain, but I have had 2 C-sections and had pain. I just want to be able to walk out of that hospital in a week. They say I will be in the ICU a couple of days and in the hospital a week total.

I had not seen the grand kids and DD for almost a month because of different ones sick. Wes who is 3 had to go to the hospital and was in the ICU for a day. It was not pneumonia, but bronchiolitis. It is caused by a virus and they did all kinds of tests ad never could get a positive test for anything. I got to see them all yesterday when DD came to take me to the primary care doctor. She is trying to keep everybody healthy so she can help me at the hospital.

DS and his wife are expecting their first baby in early July. They live with me, so that is going to be a new experience. I feel bad he has to worry about me and all my problems. He will be the one who takes me for the tests next week and take me to the hospital for the surgery. We have to be there at 5:15 a.m. I just want to get well and be a help to his wife and DD. I was pretty much her number 1 babysitter without any notice or go with her shopping and help. I miss all that.

Hopefully, I will be talking about gardening in the spring. I have all the boxes ready for winter. I did have more work to do out there and I was planning on being active outside until the snow came.
