Some bird dropped columbine seeds maybe 7 years ago, and they keep spreading.
Here is where I leave them grow, in between my front steps. They have spread around the front bed AND around to the north side of the house. I even have a lighter, lavendar colored Columbine that came up this year.
Not sure why, but it's pretty!

Columbine plants live 3 years and drop tons of seed. Happy weed, indeed!

Wonder why, @Rhodie Ranch ?

I had a miniature columbine that I thought of as a "Granny's Bonnet." The cute thing was in a location where there was a serious lack of sunshine. The plant lived for years but recently didn't make it back from a Winter. Other columbine (standards) volunteer at such a rate that I really don't know how long old plants stay around. It probably isn't forever. I actually have to weed some of the volunteers out, however.

They are mountain plants and probably don't benefit from too much water, liking well-drained soil.
