Somethings are on their way out in the garden like the squash but I am going to let the fruit fully ripen and mature before I pick it. The watermelons are finally getting bigger! I transplanted some sweet corn 2 days ago and it looks like something has been nibbling it so i covered it with some fabric i had. I hope that helps! I also prepped the area for few summer squash plants i started from seed. The lettuce seedlings are hardening off in the shade on the deck. I need to weed majority of the garden bit it's so hot here. Also had to pull all the bush beans plants yesterday after noticing lots of bean beetle, larvae and eggs on them. We burned the plants. Also planted some more beans for a late harvest. I keep posting pics of my luffa arch but I love seeing how fast the luffa are growing. I learned from a youtube video to snip off the ends of blackberry canes when they start growing in the spring and this encourages more growth and that leads to more berries and it worked! I have a gallon of blackberries in the freezer that I'll make jam out of. Thisnis all from 3 plants. Hoping for a bigger harvest next year. One of the plant is outside the garden and I love watching the chickens jump up to get the berries. I call it chicken gymnastics lol. I also canned 7 quart size jars of pumpkin and going to make some cowboy candy today. I have lots and lots of jalapenos.

Cosmo' have we talked about your pumpkins?

What variety are they?

Blackberry jam and pie were so much a part of my childhood :D. Western Oregon and Northern California have many, many wild blackberries ... every fenceline and every vacant lot, if it remains unattended for long. Pretty good berries, too

The pumpkin is called Holden from high mowing seeds. It's an open pollinated variety. The taste is not great but maybe with sugar and spice it will make good pie. The biggest one I'm saving foe my kids to carve. Someone told me that a power drill makes a great carving tool so I am going to try that lol.

Yum blackberry pie! We have the crazy wild blackberries here too but so many thorns! So I got a thornless variety lol.

This is our view from our front porch. We took a break after driving some t posts for the new goat fenced area we are building. We should be able to start putting up the fence later today. It was way too hot so we are inside taking a rest.
I wanted to see the view from the porch just like the pic in this post from past.

I keep finding glass gem corn and I am so thrilled at how well it has done. Compared to painted mountain corn, glass gem is smaller and late producer. But it's beautiful! Some of the kernels look like glass! In the basket there are some blackberries (which were eaten by my son shortly after this pic), bell peppers, and red rosel flowers. I planted some more beans and they are doing well. Pepper plants are healthy and producing lots of peppers! Sweet potato vines are trying to take over the garden and I'm pretty sure bunnies and voles have made homes in their. I let my dogs in the garden for a few minutes each day and they scare the bunnies away. It's fun to watch the dogs pounce all over the vines. DH cut down 3 apples and a plum tree that were diseased and not producing fruit. It was an expensive mistake to buy those trees and plant them in the garden. Just like anything else with gardening I've learned and will do better in the future. I found another big fat hornworm that even the chickens wouldn't eat lol. All the kale and collards had cabbage loopers so DH and I pruned all the leaves off and give them to the chickens. Watermelons are finally getting bigger! They are late this year but my son is very excited because those are his watermelons lol.

I can only post 10 pics in each post so here are the rest. The first pic is of my greenhouse where I planted tomatoes. They are all looking happy and healthy. My mammoth sunflower is huge! We see birds sitting on top of the flower head, leaning down to grab a seed and than leaving the shell on top of the flower. It's amazing how talented they are! I am excited about fall garden! What is everyone else planting in their fall garden?

by the time fall gets here i'm usually so busy wrapping up harvesting and cleaning up the gardens that i don't plant much at all. i'd like to do winter wheat or winter rye to be a cover crop, or even some field peas or buckwheat if there is enough time before the frosts come along, but my partner in crime here doesn't like cover crops so i have to bow to her wishes and just get things buried and tidied up how she likes and then wait until spring...
