Deer Season 2018

Our deer season has started here. But its only for bucks. I watched a friend part out a buck last winter. I got all the trimmings, silver skin, and more. I fed it to the dogs and cats.

This year I hope to make bone broth out of deer bones and then baste in brine and beef flavoring, then bake the bones to preserve them for later dog use instead of them taking up so much space in the freezer or just feeding them out to them all at once.

I'll see how well they store in a mesh bag in the pantry/mud room. If they start to mold or stink, I'll just feed them out.

here in north carolina since the hurricane the fish and game department is allowing shotguns year round on mosquitos...

bury them and the worms and other soil creatures will clean them up for you. :) no stink once they're done...

Uh...then there wouldn't be anything left but bare bones for the dogs. ;) The cartilage, meat fragments and left over marrow are what I want them to have, more so than just the bone itself.
