Last year I thought I would try my hand at fermented pickles.  The "real deal" as my book put it.  It was a disaster.  I have never made anything so disgusting!
Every other day I skimmed the "scum" that looked a lot like maggots. It smelled pretty good, but after 3 weeks of hard work--
