i tried pinching off some blooms this year on the jalapenos and ended up getting a decent crop, but they were small peppers and the SIL complained about that. i should have left one of the plants alone as a comparison/control for that garden, but i didn't and so i'm not sure if the pinching back was the cause or the soil in that garden. i only had three plants (and that was enough).

Funny, how somebody who didn't BOTHER to plant any gets a say in the fruit. MY friends who didn't grow jalepanoes OR banana peppers this year were THRILLED to harvest from my plants.
Speaking of peppers...

Processed 3 pie pumpkins yesterday, with P. Allen Smith's instructions, place on cookie sheet, poke holes, cook for 45 minutes at 375, let cool, skin, deseed, then freeze.
He said it's very hard to can pumpkin, and you can freeze it to use within 5 months.
DD wanted seeds, so I scooped them out and used the dehydrator. I figured that if I baked them I would forget and they would burn. Turned out nicely, 1 pint's worth.

Here is my main garden bed. First the oats cover crop, then the turnips, then the beets, BOTH of which are now covered for the next 3 days due to cold morning temperatures. I hope to box them in, but I ran out of time today, so that will have to wait until the weekend.

Without the seeds the white pumpkin didn't quite cook through. I still froze it.
I think the next pumpkin that I bake will cook 10 minutes longer and have an aluminum tent. I care less about the pulp and More about harvesting their seeds.
Tomorrow I will buy one pie pumpkin, for the seeds, of course.

you know you don't have to cook them to get the seeds out right? :)

Yesterday I Finally transplanted my 2 holly's, first one 5 ft from the east fence, 5 ft from the south fence, 2nd one 10 ft west of first. I was able to dig some holes and dump the skins, seeds, etc. of tomatoes that I have been processing. Next Saturday I pick up the 11 hens that I paid for, but, until then ALL tomato leftovers from processing have nowhere to go. I labeled the hole, then made a hole for hot peppers and one for sweet peppers. Let's see if I get volunteers next year.

I took my reciprocating saw to five long pine limbs and increased my pile of logs yesterday. We were forcast to have 12 hours of rain, starting at 9AM. I pulled 2/6 of my horse blankets that had been put away clean but had a lot of dust on them and secured them to a couple of gates where the horses cannot touch them. Here is one of them. It was poured on and clean, and today we are having high winds with gusts to 40mph, so they will both be dry. I was particularly proud that I buckled and tied them so that the wind wouldn't move them around. Well secured.
