Been waiting to post pictures of the Pin Oak that was taken down in DD's yard about 10 days ago. I give it a reckoning of about 40 ft tall. As you can see, this dying oak was WAAAYYYYY too close to the house, the garage, and the neighbors house and fence. It has been dropping limbs big enough to hit you on the head and kill you for the 5+ years that DD's have lived there. Fortunately, it never did damage anything or anybody, but it was just a matter of time. The tree guys took down a super tall oak or maple across the street from me about 6-7 years ago. DH and I were highly entertained by how quickly and efficiently they made short work of it, hit NO wires and dropped Nothing on homes or cars or anything else. I quickly hired them to take down this 1/2 dead oak tree that was in my inner sanctum. It had been hit by lighting at some point, so it wasn't nearly as tall, but it did some damage to my metal fencing. They charged me $600 to take it down to a stump, then transport the pieces through my turnouts and gate to the north pasture burn pile.
THIS job was nearly $3K, but well worth the cost.
First they took down part of DD's picket fencing and drove one of their rigs very close to the tree on the back yard cement pad. They put down plywood and parked as close as possible on the other side of the garage, considering that there was a 6 ft fence there.

They brought a trailer and a mega sized chipper, too. You can't even tell that they were there. They took away ALL of the brush and twigs. I'm pretty sure that they sell the wood chips.

The bucket guy would wrap the top of a limb, then cut it at the trunk. The boom guy would swing it over to the driveway, where the other 3 guys would take off the small limbs with a chain saw, then pick up the limb with a small tractor and the chipper would pull it in and "snow" wood chips.

They were nice to enough to save me some limbs, and they dropped those off BEFORE I GOT UP the next morning in my north pasture on my burn pile. :love They left NO RUTS in my pasture, either!! Funny, DD's had had two Other trees that needed to come down. My good friend took one down last year, on the south side of the house. Same friend who took down my 3 ft diameter volunteer maple tree that was growing in my South pasture.
The other was a volunteer pine, some 2/12 ft diameter growing on the North side of their house. She hired the same tree guys to take it down. Then, she sees this bill in her email and complained that she shouldn't be charged ahead of time. Took a look out the window, and the tree was gone! They had taken it down and ground down the stump. Can't even TELL it was there. DD's plan to put pots and grow on their stump this summer.

It is fascinating to watch professionals at work. Those tree guys sure know their stuff. We were surrounded by old oak trees at our old house. Hurricane damage hastened their deaths and one by one, they had to come down. It was like losing old friends.
