I, too, have melon success this year! I threw in several packages of cantaloupe in one of my compost beds, hoping but not believing any would grow in this drought, and I found 2 vines about 3 weeks ago. I've harvested one early, but now I'll wait on the other 5 until they drop off, UNLESS I see any bugs bugging them. If so, I'll harvest early. Congratulations!! For me this is only the 2nd time I've grown cantaloupe successfully.
