For those who love Fuchsias

I only grow a few baskets now but at one time I had a large collection, The years and these old tired bones have taken their toll, my days of maintaining a large collection are long since past but still have fond memories. Every once in awhile I look at the pictures I took of a few of them, I had so many more beauties then I have pictures for but here's a few of mine. The pictures were taken mainly for identification purposes but they are still pretty to look at.

Beautiful, aftermidnight!

I had 6 different varieties hanging in the butterfly garden that I brought inside for the winter. Let's see if they make it in the sun room with this old, forgetful waterer.

@Smart Red as long as the roots don't dry out completely they should be okay, My 6 baskets are still outside a far cry from the 65 baskets I used to hang each year, I think I should move them to my cool greenhouse today, they still look OK but the poor things are waterlogged , I just give enough water throughout the winter to keep their roots alive, I don't cut them back until sometime in March.

Simply beautiful! Wow, that f.procums is certainly unusual.
I think my favorite of your examples would be Devonshire Dumpling. I have never seen fuchsias do well around here. I guess it just gets too hot. And then spider mites take over. I used to try one occasionally, but managed to kill it quickly each time.

@aftermidnight WOW I have never seen so many varieties. I usually have 2 hanging on front porch near hummingbird feeder. None have been as stunning or exotic as a few of your. Thank you for sharing.

@so lucky f. procumbens ( I went back and spelt it right) is one of the species fuchsias native to New Zealand. Did you notice the blue pollen, in my zone it can be planted out it's a bit of a creeper, dies back in winter, reappears in the spring. I've also had it with variegated leaves.
It seems fuchsias have fallen from favor in recent years, dealing with the fuchsia gall mite has taken it's toll along with that dreaded rust, some varieties seem to be more vonerable then some and of course those $%#^ white flies.

@Carol Dee back in the 80's fuchsias were having their hay day here, there were quite a few nurseries specializing in them, with new varieties continually arriving on the scene. I had 250 plus varieties at one time and that was only a drop in the bucket to what was available.

Unfortunately these nurseries have vanished in Canada but you still can find a few in the U.S. I have shown one of these pics before but here is some of the ones I had, I did up 60 plus baskets plus up each year mostly from rooted cuttings so baskets didn't get humongous, I lost count of the number of pots and ones trained as trees.

Locally I can still find a few in the basket stuffer section in garden centers and supermarkets but most of them are mislabeled as to which variety they actually are.
I have a lot of pics of the fuchsias I've had, but they aren't ones taken by me so won't post them here. Look up tryphyllas, beautiful fuchsias with long tubes. I picked up this one as a basket stuffer.

Oh my God! You recently showed Coleus. I went and bought a new four coleus. I had great difficulty to find a place for them in a city apartment yesterday. And today I can see already beautiful fuchsia ??? !!! (Where to put it?)))))

Fuchsias quite often throw sports, I've had this happen to me quite often, either they are identical to the flowers on the mother plant only different colors or they can take on a different shape altogether.
