FREEZE WARNING

Steve's probably been out a bunch of times though. He has a lot more at stake. I hope his and GWRs plants are okay. At least there's no ice on the birdbaths, My thermometer says 34.

Ugh.

At 3am, it was 37°f at the nearest weather underground station to the garden. Left the driveway at 3:33.

Water pipes almost completely discombobulated at the garden. Hay was cut (very late) in nearby alfalfa. No frost.

Left garden at 4:44, after my "breakfast" of banana, raisin bread and Gatorade ... and, listening to Radio Japan for a time. Decided that a commuter always has something gainful to do, so drove off to buy gas ...

About a mile away, there was frost on the roofs. Returned to the garden and hooked up first section of pipe past hay. Light from sunrise was hitting the valve beside the road. Still no frost on the ground or roofs there ...

Went home ... back in my pajamas with peaches and blueberry pancakes with coffee for a real breakfast. Might take a nap.

Steve ;)

DH thought there was frost on the car windows this morning. I see where we got to 38. A lot of work to cover, but I am glad I did. If I did not care enough to worry then I guess I would not go through all this to have a garden anyway. I hope no damage to thistle or Steve's gardens.

I took the plastic off and it was really wet. The squash loved it. Flowers all pretty opening under the plastic. I need some portable row covers not just for frost and freeze, but cold temperatures like 40s at night. The plants are dark green and look bigger. The cucumbers and peppers yesterday had looked like they were getting a little lighter colored after wind, hail, highs in 50s and took the plastic off and they look nice and dark green.

Yay!

I spent much of midday out there - nope, no frost damage. It was "officially" 32°f and 31° near Spirit Lake so if Thistle' didn't have frost, she was lucky, indeed.

It was unofficially 35° at that weather underground station (a public school) near my garden. It's now 67° there and should be mid-40's overnight.
