I'll give a quick run down of the life of a meaty, from chick to table...even the cutesy chick pics. I think it's important for folks to see how food is made. Everything starts as a baby, be it from our place or the store, that cannot be escaped. Let's look at the life of a meaty raised at home....
Some raised by a broody mama....
Some raised by a broody papa...
But then they outgrow Dad....
Then they get even bigger...do you see any ugly, stinking birds in these vids? No? Neither do I...I think they are lovely.
On their specially designed roost...
Still favoring the bucket they used as chicks, even though a big 5 gal. bucket is a few feet away....silly birds.
Eating clover out in the cool of the evening, just like other chickens..
Yes, they eat like pigs...but that's their nature...
Enjoying a regular life out on the cool grass of the morning...
Then it's time to fulfill their purpose on this Earth, to become food for another creature.
Awaiting their turn in the killing cone....
Meeting a quick end at the end of a great, but short, life...
Being plucked by my antique manual plucker....
Being turned into food...
Now...let's see how the store bought chickens lived....
'Nuff said. Now, where's that BBQ?
