Each winter i’ll build a few of these as a way to stay busy (pass the long winter) and always enjoy that time. The garden is waking up so i better quit playing and get after it, in earnest!
Oh yea, it’s garden related if i add any fish guts to the Hydroslate barrel and apply it to the plants!

What's the weather like in your area of AK right now? Do you grow most of your own veggies? I've heard that groceries are extremely expensive in AK.

Well today it’s 27 and I’m about to push the last 4 inches of snow. Groceries are a subjective thing; I’m sure they are more expensive than some places but we’ve noticed not as expensive as western N Dakota where we moved from!
I do grow a bunch of our stuff however there’s no way to grow all of it due to seasonal restraint both in the growing AND how long it stores.
I’ll still be eating my own potato’s, onions, probably carrots when the new crop comes in and out of the freezer, raspberries, summer squash, broccoli and some years beans and edible pod peas.

During the actual growing season this list grows a lot with non storable items. Cucumbers, all salad greens etc.
