Meat!? I always wondered about a dog named chow!

Probably just a coincidence (though one of the words pronounced "chow" in Chinese DOES mean "cooked"). I will point out that "chow" also has a food meaning in German as well (as in chow-chow, that relish like stuff the Amish make.)

I have smelly memories of all the older ladies pickling chow-chow as a kid. To this day, I've never tried it...

I'd never heard of Amish Chow Chow relish, so I looked it up. The ingredients sound good:

• 1 quart of green string beans
• 1 quart of chopped celery
• 1 quart of kidney beans
• 1 quart of yellow corn
• 1 quart of diced carrots
• 10 sliced red peppers
• 1 quart of navy beans
• 4 small onions, diced
• 3 pounds sugar
• 2 quarts white vinegar
• 2 teaspoons mustard seed
• 2 teaspoons celery seed
• 2 tablespoons pickling spice

I would try it, but probably won't have the opportunity. The closest Amish settlements to me are in Pennsylvania.
