There was a lady in the same town as me that had some plants on FreeCycle. I got several tomato plants from her as well as cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. The tomatoes are Granny Cantrell which is, from what I can tell, a heirloom. They already have fruit on them and they are growing in a large yogurt container (gonna put them in the ground this evening). A member on here graciously sent me some brussel sprout seeds that are an heirloom variety (I believe according to bbbseed.com). I will judge these for my trial heirloom run and go from there. I hope they grow wonderfully. I really want to plant heirlooms next year.

This is my first year for heirlooms, some stuff I like and some not so much. Not sure what I am going to grow next year. Probably a combination of both.

Heirloom:

Negatives: Aggrivating, suseptible, irratic, non-uniform,
will test your patience and reserve

Positives: Will make you a more patient gardener and,
above all....F L A V O R

Hybrids:

Positives: Uniformity, disease resistant, prolific, easy
to grow, forgiving

Negatives: Flavor, usually, just falls into the "it's
alright" catagory, seed saving drawbacks
