i had to do a little scraping yesterday as the snow was crusty, but we have the technology. a good firm straight-bladed flat shovel. it does not work well for actually shovelling, but used to scrape and push snow along or to break up a crusty deposit it works very well. for the really stubborn chunks i have the trenching shovel that is still holding on even if it is cracked. that bugger will scrape up ice if needed.
