Only one ripe watermelon has made it out of the gardens here over the past 45 years. This was the year! It was delicious! It was grown by my daughter-in-law, but I cleaned the bed, I amended the bed, I raked it for planting. I also did most of her weeding as well as keeping the chickens out of the garden despite 'those who should know better' leaving the garden gate open quite often.

I figure I should get some of the credit for the melon.

it's nice to hear others have their tricky ones! It kills me when I research what to do, and my plants wither and die. Some folks are born with a natural green thumb, I'm a recovering herbicidal maniac. It seemed like every plant I touched for years would die! So I am slowly learning, and every success is another step forward!

Welcome from Texas! We moved 3 years ago to 8 acres of pure sand. They call it sugar sand. So while I get a lot more rain than you do, I can commiserate with the sand. I have gardened all my life, but our first year here, everything died. Glad you joined, post pictures!
