Welcome to our gardening group. Just do the best you can with what you got. You'd be surprised how much you can grow in a small space. I have 6 fruit trees in the ground and 3 in big pots. All this plus more in a tiny city lot.

Welcome. Can I assume another "horse person"? One precautionary note, the southerners like to taunt with their beautiful gardens while we are still enjoying winter.

Ya I'm a horse person even though I don't have my horse any more. I can't live without my winter and if I want to enjoy a beautiful garden in winter all I'll have to do is go visit my mom and step dad after next February they are moving south.

I knew some neighbors who moved to Wyoming about 3 years ago. They are now in Worland.

Before they left, I had been doing a little research on Wyoming climate. They actually moved to the community I thought might be most similar to where they were moving from. But, I didn't tell them that.

I was afraid I was Wrong. And, I'm still not sure ...

I once knew a Wyoming gardener. I'm trying to remember the tomato variety she said she grew every year. Galina! That's it. It was originally from Russia. There are opportunities in some places for lots of garden-variety choices.

Parts of Wyoming has a most challenging climate. I know it's not the entire picture of a very large state but some places have the possibility of frost during any summer month. Wikipedia tells us that the average elevation (if Wyoming could be ironed out flat ) is 6,700 feet.

Worland is just over 4,000 feet. The temperature here (500+ miles north) is right at freezing this morning. The Worland temperature is 7°f.

It does get cold here but in the part of Wyoming I live we don't get as much rain as you. But I wouldn't move away for the world this is home.

You DO live in a dry environment, RodeoGirl! "The Rose City" ... isn't that nice!

However, take a look at the July-August-September rain for the summer season in Lovell (link) and my nearest weather station (link). Dryer here!

Growing season temperatures couldn't be much closer ... cold winter weather, you've got!

We have our dry times and our really dry times. In 2007 we were at the end of a 8 year drought.
