Hi everyone!
For a school project, I am working with a group to plant a garden, and we need plants that will produce relatively early. we planted tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, spinach, and herbs. we might get strawberries later. does anyone have any ideas for plants that will produce something by mid june?

I'm in pennsylvania btw.

I think I'm in zone 6. the problem is that I have planted most of those plants in our garden at home, and have never gotten anything edible before july, so I don't think they are going to produce in time. :idunno

Peas and radishes produce in July here in chilly MN - if you're in zone 6 you can plant now (unlike us...)

Radishes and Carrots are good ones. Radishes generally produce in 32 days, some varies longer. Carrots are about 65-70 days to produce. They should work good for you needs.

Harvest the tendrils of the pea vines for salads or stir-fries. Just as they begin to flower is a good time.

Plant leafy greens - - You are not waiting for seeds. You aren't waiting for fruit. You aren't even waiting for flowers. And, you don't have to wait for the roots to "bulk up."

You've already got the lettuce and spinach. . . . these should be harvestable in 30 to 45 days:

Onions from sets
Arugula
Orache
Mustard Greens
Bok Choy (many Asian greens should be ready for use by mid-June. :))
mesclun mixes

Radishes for sure. It's the quickest, surest, easiest I can think of. Lettuce and mesclun are also pretty much sure things. I'd also recommend other leafy greens like kale, chard, and spinach. Beets may not be ready but you can eat the leafy tops. I'd do the strawberries. You may not get a lot, but the quality should be very good. The herbs were a good idea. If you plant onion sets, you will get green onions even if they don't fully bulb up.
