Well, as good as it can be anyway.

DH is at the ER with Ashley, our 6 yr old. She has been been somewhat phlemy but all the kids have been going thru various stages of colds (it seems like they keep one during school). But over the weekend Ashley was very very cross upon waking up so we knew she wasn't feeling well but as the mornign went on she would be OK. This morning she acted a little crabby at first but was anxious to go to school. Shortly after arriving at school she started crying and throwing up. When Roger got her home she would cry a little then fall asleep. Over and over, like she was supremely tired but in pain so much it wuold wake her for a moment.

Ashley is legally blind, autistic, and was born with hydrocephalus (too much fluid on her brain). Since the ventricles in her brain are not capable of diverting the excess fluid from her brain she has a shunt that drains into her abdominal cavity. Our fear is her shunt is malfunctioning, causing fluid build-up.

We are crossing our fingers it's a stomach bug. I'm real afraid it isn't....

Well, it isn't what I was hoping for.

Roger took her to our local hospital which is only 25 minutes away since they can do a cat-scan to see if there is fluid build-up. He just called and said tehy are waiting for the ambulance from Cook Childrens Hospital in Ft Worth. Her shunt is malfunctioning. I don't know the severity yet but he says she won't wake up now, just cries out ever so often. My neighbor is going to give me a ride to the local hospital so I can get the car.

Why does life always seem to go from hard to hard??? :barnie :he

I called in reinforcements and was able to get to the hospital and surprised DH with food! LOL, he has no money in his pockets so he was real happy to see me. :D

They have scheduled her for surgery in the morning - they think the drain tube has come disconnected at the valve so we're not sure just what to expect. She is in good spirits and being a wonderful patient. I am on the hospitals computer so will check in as I can.

JOE, I just wanted you to know that NOW my DH is scoping for things he can take cuttings from! LOL! I told him you would be very proud of him.

RON, Dh surprised me with ROSEHIPS he had filched from the roses planted around the hospital when he was out having a cigarette.

Anyway, gotta run so I can check emails and get back to Ashley's room. Hugs to everyone and thank you for the well-wishes! :bouquet
