How are YOU Celebrating St. Patrick's Day?

That's what I was always told...have the taties in the ground before St. Patty's Day. Mine are leafing out before SPD...first time ever for me.

It would depend on where you are growing. They will start growing when the soil is 40 degrees, but if your ground is too wet and cold they'll rot. I wait until my soil is at least 50.

My husbands family always planted on Good Friday which will be on the 25th this year.

These adages are seldom possible to follow in zone 5-ish.

That one is definitely sounding more likely and doable. I'm most certainly planting peas today, so I'm right on schedule, though I'm way ahead on spuds this year.

I'm just rejoicing over not having to depend on tillage to get in early crops, as it's always been too wet to till here this early in the year.

A friend of mine always plants peas on Valentine's day. Even in the snow. She says it always works.

It's been said here frequently, but all gardening is local. Those dates are great reminders if your local climate supports them, but they can't possibly be universal.
