Yes Hattie I have missed you guys! It's nice to have people to talk to that have the same interests. Around here most people can't be bothered with a garden , so yes I'm definately glad to be back!

Hattie - how are things across the pond?

OK I have new pictures! Here's the kale :

That's my update for now. I'm pretty proud of how well everything is doing this year. As annoying as the rain has been it has really pushed things up rather well. I have an amazing sunflower that volunteered that is now close to 7 1/2 feet tall. I could go on and on. Happy gardening guys!

Oh yeah - did anyone else see the watermelon radishes they had in seed packs at Kmart this year? They were a Martha Stewart brand of seed. I planted some and they're pretty good. They are white with a purpleish center. Next time I'll post some pics of those

I am kind of new here what area do you live in Jimann if you do not mind my asking ..everything looks so grown!

we are doing great here I thought until I look at other folks gardens

right now I am still eating lots of greens and the peas are wonderful

some of my beans are starting to flower ..the scarlet runners are ..but the bush beans look kind of sad ..they are ok just do not have the umpf they usually have

carrots are almost ready to thin for babies and the beets well they are just about perfect to pull...

I am already thinking about the next round of planting

I want to do some late potatoes and put some stuff in tires to see if the black of them keeps things later in the year like a mini warm bed or something

I love gardening and work is killing me when I know there are things I could be doing outside ..but I have to support my habit!

Hidelight - I don't mind you asking, I'm in southwest Virginia. I think we're in zone 6b or so with the Appalachians to the west of us and the coast to the east the zone maps go from 6a to 6b to 7a in about 75 to 100 miles west to east. All of my cool weather stuff was planted early so that might be why it looks so grown to you.

We've also had an awesome year for gardening! So that helps. Are you new to gardening? A lot of people assume that most plants will die if it frosts but really most things can tolerate a little cold weather ( especially lettuces and onions and cabbages, kales ,all of the western brassicas ) Maybe you need to start earlier next year Anyway I tend to ramble , so thank you for the compliment and post some pictures so we can see how your garden looks! I'm sure it looks great!

I just harvested green peas, carrots are ready to get yanked. My potatoes are flowering finally! And my snap peas are beginning to form.

I've got black currents turning a deep purple and my gooseberries are getting larger.

Cherries are forming on the trees, apples, peaches and pears too...but the cherries are going to be here first, some already have changed to light pink in color.

Planted today: peel carrots, flat leaf parsley, purple carrots and cone flowers. All from seeds that were given to me by a dear friend who lives on the Great Salish Sea! (Except the cone flower seeds, they are from Fredericksburg, TX.)

Your photo of the kale looks like a wonderful painting. Your other vegetables look great too. I envy you being so ahead.

Over hear things are pretty good (other than the Deluge/Thunder/Hail of the day before yesterday which turned a lot of my old roses into balls of brown mush & tore apart some leaves on some veg. Luckily they will all survive.

I'm eating various salad leaves, peas & broad beans, masses of herbs & my runner bean are just flowering as are a lot of my tomatoes. I've got ripe blackcurrants & the raspberries are coming along nicely. It looks like another bumper crop. My Apple trees are loaded as are the Cherries. All the other veg is coming along nicely so I'm very happy with this year -- SO FAR.........!!

Oooh! -- While you were off-line I had 5 chicks hatched by my Dorking Hen "Julia". 3 are hers & are full- bred Dorkings, the remaining two are crosses White Rock x Dorking (they don't have the extra 5th toe). They are all growing very fast & look very healthy.

I need a period of STEADY warm weather with warm nights & with some gentle rain (preferably at night)........................JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WANTS!!!

Jlman Your Garden Loooks GREAT And that Kale Wow
all of your veggies look as if you will be coming into a Bumper crop It's so nice you got your computer back up and running. I would love to see those watermelon radishes, never heard of those.

The greenhouse is doing fine, Thanks for asking. Dh and I feel that it is a success. Even though we still have many plants left the weather has just been tooo wet for a lot of folks to work there gardens. But we have done very little advertizing, it has been mostly by word of mouth. And we have always had good complements from all that come and see us. We plan to offer fall crops for those that plant cool weather veggies in the fall too.

Here goes. These are the watermelon radishes I mentioned yesterday. The seeds came from Kmart and I'm hoping I'll be able to find them next year. They were a " Martha Stewart" brand of seed , that I had never seen before. The radishes themselves have a very good flavor without getting "hot" like the white icicle radishes sometimes do. The first picture is a radish beside a pint jar lid:
