How's everyone's potatoes going?

Can you use some of this first crop as seed potatoes for the fall crop?

I picked it while I was getting supper ready, right out of the bag of taters I had in the kitchen :gig

We have some sweet potato vines to go out too. :tools

You have a most beautiful garden! What is that in the "fence" growing?

My potatoes were up 6-8 inches, so I filled up the bin to the top 3 leaves. Next day, they are sticking up 6-8 inhces again. So I figured I didn't do a good job and filled the bin again. Guess what? The next day they were up 6-8 inches again! Crazy things.

My potatoes did do so great. I kept covering the plant and eventually they stop coming up. Some made it but I am not sure they will produce. I have stopped hilling them and they are about 2 ft tall and covered with hay. They have not bloomed. I dug around a couple of times and all I find is stalk.

The bummer part is that I ordered them from SSE which couldn't send them till mid march. And the growing guides said to plant them beginning of Feb so avoid the heat of the coastal south. I will probably try again in fall.

Do they have to bloom to produce potatoes?

I have no clue.
From what I read when they are flowering they need the most water cause that is when they produce the tater? I had also ordered the big expensive variety pack with eight varieties. I ran out of room and tried to store half under the sink. They weren't going to make it till the fall so I shipped them to a bud in Seattle where her season is just starting.

My plants are already losing flowers now as we speak! Looks like my potatoes will be ready about June 16th-20th! Just in time for my birthday.

I really hope they do well as my next planting for potatoes will be the first week in August.

Inch, I'm planning on using a few spuds from this harvest to supply my seeds for my next batch. This batch was from grocery store bought spuds... so I ate most of them and saved one potato I chunked into potato seeds!

So far I'm really impressed.... next year I want to try fingerlings and some blues for sure!!!!

I asked on another post about your HD's potatos but you must have missed it. I have read that this is only the 2nd time he has done it this way. What does he do to the buckets to make them ready. How high is the dirt when he plants the potatos. I have never done potatos before so all the info. on this you can give me would be a great help. I can get alot of buckets from work(drywall).

Thanks
Mike
