"How's Your Melons Doin'?"

I'm eating a melon from a volunteer vine, this morning. It's good!

They are obviously offspring of the Alvaro Charentais hybrid I grew in 2014. I'm not gonna get too excited about them. The catalog outfits talk about there early ripening. That's so. From plants set out in the spring in '14, I had melons the 24th of August, or thereabouts. These volunteers aren't too late.

They seem exactly like the Alvaro, small, without very much of that charentais flavor.

It has been a very good melon season. There are still a couple Goddess cantaloupe out there :).

I didn't try to grow cantaloupe this year. As a matter fact, although I bough a lot of watermelons this summer, I didn't buy a single cantaloupe. I don't know why, because I love cantaloupe.:\

I have melons that I didn't really expect. Not ripe of course, but I didn't even figure they'd set fruit. They aren't volunteers, (Steve, you big show off!).
If they do ripen my head will get all puffed up and there will be no living with me. Then I'll be dangerously close to thinking I really can grow melons....

The fishing line hasn't failed me yet, but I feel like I should make some melon cages!

I hear that background music that means the bad guys are gaining Lavender!
You better get a cage on those babies quick and save the day. Then drape them with frost cloth....
