Friends from city are coming up. Tomorrow we are going to local farm for pumpkins. Someone came up with idea of making pie in the afternoon. A good host always trys to fill a guest request, so one more try at baking. Fire and poison control numbers posted by phone. I am hoping at least one person in group knows how to bake. I am just happy to have day off :ya:ya:celebrate:celebrate

Baking pumpkin pie isn't all that hard if you start with canned pumpkin, but getting raw pumpkin to the point of being ready for a pie is a far cry from making a pie.

Just heard that most canned pumpkin isn't pumpkin at all, but mostly some other type of squash that is easier to work with than raw pumpkin flesh. Go figure!

Take all the pans and such out of the stove before turning it on to preheat. . . just saying.

NyBoy, ask at farm for a good squash useful for pie. There is a "pie pumpkin" that some find to be okay but I have never used or grown it.

Pumpkin pies? I have been making them for over 50 years. Usually, the "pumpkin" was a homegrown squash. Otherwise, that part of th filling came out of a can. My understanding is that the industry uses a C. moschata type. It might be like a butternut.

My recipe came off a can ~ altho I have it typed out and in a binder, these days ~ the Carnation milk or Libby pumpkin can. They are (or, were) the same and you can find it on the internet, too. I'm not very adventurous with baking. If it works, it works :).

Adventure: I have been steaming the chunks of squash. At other times, I've roasted it. Boiling it was the method I used for years. You will know when the squash is done - stick a fork in it. Baking is to cook the other ingredients, like the eggs.

Wishing You the Best of Luck.

That Libby's recipe is great. I have it taped to the inside of my cabinet, too. That, biscuits and pie crust recipes. I've been craving pumpkin pie lately. I've got all the stuff, maybe I'll make one tomorrow.
