It is a Flint corn, makes a cob about 6" long of purple kernels similar to Hopi blue. Japonica Striped Maize is a true ornamental edible. These plants would look good in a lot of landscape designs, the cobs make great "indian corn" fall decorations...

Even though it was not mainly bred for grinding, it is obvious it was bred from a grinding corn. I'll soon find out how well it grinds.
